Gedung OJK – Rumah Oei Tiong Ham
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) Regional Office 3 in Central Java and Yogyakarta occupies a site once known as the “Saw Palace” (Istana Gergaji), part of the historic Balekambang Palace complex. Originally owned by Chinese merchant Hoo Yam Loo, the estate was purchased in 1883 by Oei Tjie Sien. His son, Oei Tiong Ham—dubbed the “Sugar King of Southeast Asia”—transformed it into a lavish European-style estate complete with gardens, gazebos, and a mini zoo. Following the nationalization of Oei Tiong Ham’s assets in 1961, the complex served various public functions. In 2016, OJK leased the building, and in 2017, it was officially purchased and renovated while preserving historical features, such as the original family bathing pool.
