The Mataram Kingdom during the reign of Rakai Sumba ended suddenly. This was caused by the greatest eruption of Mount Merapi in its history. As a result of the eruption, the surrounding area was hit by cold lava, so that the ground surface became higher and buried the Losari Temple site.
