Kampung Batik Eko Haryanto

Located in Rejomulyo Village, East Semarang, this historic neighborhood reflects the heyday of Semarang’s batik industry in the 19th century. During the colonial era, it was home to wealthy batik merchants who traded their goods beyond Java. However, on October 17, 1945, the area was devastated when Japanese forces burned it during the Five-Day Battle of Semarang, destroying hundreds of homes. A revitalization effort began in 2006 with batik-making training organized by the Semarang City Government. One of the trainees, Eko Haryanto, later founded the brand Cinta Batik Semarang, becoming a pioneer of Semarangan batik's revival. Today, Kampung Batik Gedong is not only a center of batik production with iconic motifs such as Lawang Sewu, Tugu Muda, and Warak Ngendog, but also a cultural tourism destination. Visitors can enjoy vibrant murals, take part in batik workshops, and purchase handmade batik directly from artisans.
