The Tegal Naval Base building, located on Jalan Proklamasi, is a historic structure reflecting the development of both economic and military sectors in Tegal. Built in 1914, it originally served as the office of the Nederlandsch Indische Handelsbank (NIH Bank), a Dutch banking institution that financed plantation sectors in the Dutch East Indies.
After Indonesian independence, the building was repurposed in 1960 as the headquarters of the Indonesian Navy (ALRI) in Tegal. Previously, it had been used by PT Yala Gita and known as Gedung Sional. Today, it continues to serve as a naval base and remains a significant symbol of Tegal’s colonial banking history and the nation’s struggle for independence.
