Selogriyo Temple was first discovered by Resident Hartman in 1835. The first restoration was carried out in 1955-1957. December 31, 1998 Selogriyo Temple collapsed up to 80% then restored again in 2000 to 2005.

Based on the statues in Selogriyo Temple (Agastya, Durga Mahisasuramardhini, Ganesha, Nandiswara, and Mahakala) it can be seen that this temple is a Hindu temple. The exact period of Selogriyo Temple construction has not been determined, but based on the style of the temple's sculptures, it can be estimated that it was built in the 8th century AD, contemporaneous with Dieng and Gedongsonggo Temples.
