According to the Nyatnyono extended family lineage, Waliyullah Hasan Munadi was a descendant of Majapahit. His father was Raden Suruh (King of Majalengka) bin Raden Munding Wangi (Raden Pajajaran) bin Raden Ronggo (King of Jenggolo) up to the Prophet Adam as. Waliyullah Hasan Munadi was a brother from the same father and different mother as Raden Patah, the Sultan of Demak. The first figure was the older brother, while Raden Patah was the younger brother from the line of Princess Cempa in Lasem. There are also those who say that in addition to being a descendant of Brawijaya V, he was a descendant of Sunan Ampel and also a descendant of Sunan Kalijaga from his elder wife, Garwa Pangrembe (Lineage of the Nyatnyono Extended Family). Regarding the descendants of Sunan Kalijaga, some information from local figures recorded by the family, such as Kyai Abdullah Umar from Kaliwungu, Kendal and Kyai Mansur from Surakarta also stated so. However, these two figures did not mention the name of Waliyullah Hasan Munadi's mother. Another mother's name emerged from the opinion of Raden Darmowuluyo, a descendant of Demang Ireng who stated that Raden Bambang Kartonadi was the son of Sunan Kalijaga from the wife of Dwi Gemawang who came from Kediri.
As previously mentioned, Waliyullah Hasan Munadi or Raden Bambang Kartonadi lived in the early days of the spread of Islam in Java. With the title Tumenggung, Waliyullah Hasan Munadi became one of the leaders of the Demak troops. After his service in Demak, he chose to study religion and become a spreader of Islam. At that time, people still worshiped stones, trees, ghosts, and demons. However, Waliyullah Hasan Munadi was determined to convey the teachings of Islam. In his preaching activities, he chose to walk south.
On this journey, he met several of his students. The two most prominent were Kyai Gede Cendono and Ki Ageng Sekiringan. He continued his journey to Mount Suryalaya to meditate, to get closer to Allah SWT. He did this because he was aware that his efforts to spread Islam would certainly encounter many obstacles and challenges. The most difficult obstacle for Waliyullah Hasan Munadi was the opposition from powerful and powerful figures, such as Ki Anjar Bonit and Raden Potro Kusuma.
After 100 days on Mount Suryalaya, he intended to leave the place. However, suddenly he was shocked by the image (appearance) of a mosque. Seeing this, he spontaneously uttered a sentence in Javanese: lagi menyat wes ana (just standing suddenly there). In the oral tradition of the community, this event is associated with the origin of the area currently known as Nyatnyono. Seeing this image, he became more determined to settle and build a mosque.
The construction of the mosque, coincided with the construction of the Great Mosque of Demak by the guardians. As the brother of the sultan, he was also asked for help by Sunan Kalijaga to help build the mosque. However, Waliyullah Hasan Munadi stated to Sunan Kalijaga that currently, he was also building a mosque. Therefore, he requested, before he came to Demak, the guardians must first build a mosque in Nyatnyono. He also gave a special condition, that the mosque he built with the help of the guardians only had one pillar (saka). This request was fulfilled by Sunan Kalijaga by sending one pillar that was originally used for the construction of the Demak Mosque. That is why, when the Demak Mosque was being built, Sunan Kalijaga lacked one pillar and was replaced with a pillar made of tatal (small pieces of wood).
The one pillar, by the descendant of Waliyullah Hasan Munadi in the next period, namely Kyai Raden Purwo Hadi, was changed into four pillars. He did this after he meditated for one year at the Nyatnyono Mosque and Tomb. In 1895, the third renovation was carried out by the descendants and the surrounding community without changing the mosque pillars at all.
Waliyullah Hasan Munadi had two wives, namely the daughter of Kyai Ageng Makukuhan II (Raden Abdullah Taqwim) from Magelang and the daughter of a Ponorogo official. From his two daughters, he only had children from his first wife. Among his descendants was Waliyullah Hasan Dipuro who also continued his footsteps as a cleric and spreader of Islam. Waliyullah Hasan Munadi was blessed with a long life, namely 130 years. He spent his old age at the residence of his young wife in Ponorogo. When he died, the family in Nyatnyono were not invited, so no one came. However, his son, Waliyullah Hasan Dipuro, had known about it through his sharp inner eye. Therefore, in Ponorogo, Waliyullah Hasan Munadi did not have children, the son fulfilled his father "spiritually" to ask him to move to Nyatnyono. Finally, on 21 Ramadan after the completion of the Tarawih prayer, the body and the soil of the tomb of Waliyullah Hasan Munadi were moved to Nyatnyono. Until now, every 21 Ramadan, it is a commemoration of the haul of Waliyullah Hasan Munadi which is attended by various pilgrims from all over the region.
Near the tomb of Waliyullah Hasan Munadi, there is also sacred water (Sendang Nyatnyono) which is crowded with visitors. This spring is usually visited by pilgrims, to bathe and clean themselves, before they make a pilgrimage to the tomb of Waliyullah Hasan Munadi and his son, Waliyullah Hasan Dipuro. According to the caretaker, the sacred water of Nyatnyono was discovered starting from the renovation of the mosque left by Waliyullah Hasan Munadi. At that time, the condition of the mosque was very worrying. When the rainy season arrives, water will enter the mosque because the roofs of the mosque are leaking and damaged. The renovation of the mosque was carried out by Kyai Raden Purwo Hadi, one of the descendants of Waliyullah Hasan Munadi in 1980. The renovation funding was carried out through pure community funding coordinated by the mosque construction committee.
For the caretaker, repairing a mosque inherited from a saint cannot be done carelessly. Therefore, in addition to funding, spiritual efforts were also carried out through a 100-day mujahadah at the peak of Mount Suryalaya. To support this effort, the Imam, Kyai Raden Purwo Hadi, also asked for help from two charismatic clerics from Central Java, namely K.H. Abdul Hamid from Kajoran, Magelang and K.H. Ahmad Abdul Haq from Watucongol, Muntilan, Magelang. The two clerics also led the tahlil, to begin the renovation of the mosque. The demolition was carried out through mutual cooperation by the community and pilgrims. However, there was something unique (Interview with Bari and Toyibin, Caretaker and Guardian of Sendang Nyatnyono, July 1, 2019).
Every time pilgrims come, they always come from the left (north) of the mosque. After this was conveyed by the imam to the two clerics, the two clerics answered through spiritual insight, that on the left there was a spring that was one of the charisma of a saint. After the existence of the sacred water was known, more and more people came to take blessings and the funds for the mosque renovation were collected more quickly. In fact, the funds that were originally only for the renovation of the mosque, increased so that they could be used by the management to renovate the sacred water and the tomb of Waliyullah Hasan Munadi. In addition, funds were also channeled for the construction of other supporting facilities, such as madrasahs, Islamic boarding schools, prayer rooms, and helping Islamic boarding schools in various regions. After the sacred water spring was renovated, this spring was named Sendang Keramat Kalimah Thoyyibah.
