Kyai Telingsing (The Ling Sing) was a famous painter and sculptor from China. After his arrival in Kudus, he then founded a mosque and Islamic boarding school in Nganguk village. Sunan Kudus was one of the students at this Islamic boarding school. Since his arrival, Kyai Telingsing then gave birth to descendants who were also experts in painting and carving or in Javanese called sungging. Furthermore, these descendants formed a Chinese Muslim community south of the Menara Mosque. This area was later named Sunggingan Village by the community which means "place of carving experts" south of Demangan Village. Kyai Telingsing was also buried in this area (Graaf and Pigeaud, 2001: 111). Like the tomb of Sunan Kudus, the tomb of Kyai Telingsing is dominated by red bricks that surround the tomb.
