The presence of Mbah Sambu in Lasem was at the request of the Duke of Lasem, Tejakusumo, to spread Islam in this area. In addition to spreading Islam, he is also known for his services in suppressing pirates who caused chaos in the city center of Lasem. At that time, the Lasem region was a separate area of power that included Sedayu, Gresik, Tuban, Rembang, Pati, and Jepara. For his services, Mbah Sambu, who was also the son-in-law of the Duke of Lasem, was given free land, which is currently the location of the Lasem Grand Mosque. Mbah Sambu also succeeded in expelling the VOC Company from the Rumah Gedong which was headquartered in Kauman Village, Karang Turi. After the house was empty and successfully controlled by Mbah Sambu, he gave several residents the opportunity to occupy it temporarily. This also applies to those with bara status (looking for work), as long as they are unable to buy or rent a house or contract. Different from other sacred tombs, Mbah Sambu's tomb is in an open area, along with other Lasem figures.
