For her services as a figure of Indonesian women's emancipation, President Soekarno designated R.A. Kartini as a National Hero in 1964 based on Presidential Decree No. 108 of 1964. The inauguration of the major restoration of the tomb complex was carried out to coincide with the 100th anniversary of R.A. Kartini's birth on April 21, 1979 by Mrs. Tien Suharto. This tomb has become one of the pilgrimage and educational tourism destinations, especially for students from around Rembang and outside Rembang, such as Jepara and Semarang. Therefore, on April 21, 2017, the R.A. Kartini Tomb complex in Rembang was designated as a National Tourism Pilgrimage Destination by the Minister of Social Affairs Khofifah Indar Parawansa. After completing the pilgrimage, pilgrims usually enjoy typical culinary delights and shop for various souvenirs displayed at the location around the tomb. Near the tomb complex, there is also a batik garden and flower garden as part of the completeness of this tourist attraction.
