This historic structure reflects the growth of banking and colonial architecture in Indonesia. Located in Semarang’s Old Town district, it was built in 1829 as the first branch of De Javasche Bank outside Batavia (Jakarta). Over time, the building underwent renovations and expansions to meet the bank’s operational needs.
After De Javasche Bank was nationalized in 1951, the building became part of Bank Indonesia before eventually being repurposed. It has since been designated a cultural heritage site and now stands as a preserved symbol of the city's banking history.
