Candi Gunung Wukir (Canggal)

Based on the Canggal inscription found in 1879, this temple was built during the reign of King Sanjaya from the Ancient Mataram Kingdom, namely in 732 AD (654 Saka years). This inscription has a lot of information related to the Medang Kingdom or Hindu Mataram. Based on this inscription, Gunung Wukir Temple may have had the original name Shiwalingga or Kunjarakunja. This temple is located on Wukir Hill, which is called Gunung Wukir by the local community, on the western slope of Mount Merapi. This location is in the northeast of Muntilan District, Magelang Regency. Gunung Wukir Temple can be reached by public transportation towards Ngluwar District to Kadiluwih Village, Canggal Hamlet, which is continued by walking up the hill approximately 300 meters above sea level.
