Peninggalan Para Pendiri Mangkunegaran (Astana Mangadeg dan Girilayu)

There are two complexes of the founders of Mangkunegaran, namely Astana Mangadeg and Astana Girilayu. Astana Mangadeg (mangadeg: standing) is a burial complex for the early rulers (Mangkunagara) and close relatives (dalem) of Mangkunegaran. In this complex are buried Mangkunagara I, II, and III; each with its own mausoleum. In addition, in this complex are also buried a number of close relatives and assistants in the struggle in the war against the Mataram Sultanate and the VOC until it ended with the agreement of the Salatiga Agreement in 1757. This burial complex is located on the top of a small hill (named Bukit Mangadeg) at the foot of Mount Lawu, east of the center of Matesih District. This place was previously where Raden Mas Said (later became Mangkunagara I) meditated during his struggle. Pilgrims visit this place to meditate or pray for their ancestors. This burial complex is only allowed to be visited by descendants of Mangkunagara. The location is still close to Astana Girilayu and Astana Giribangun.
