Peninggalan Raja-Raja Mataram di Imogiri
Imogiri Cemetery is located in Imogiri, Bantul, Yogyakarta. If the tomb in Kota Gede is the tomb for the founders of the Mataram kingdom, then Imogiri Cemetery is the tomb for the kings from Sultan Agung to the kings and families from both the Kasunanan Surakarta and the Sultanate of Yogyakarta. This cemetery complex is also called Pesareyan Dalem Para Nata Pajimatan Girirejo Himagiri. Unlike the Kota Gede cemetery which is behind the Gede Mataram Mosque, the Imogiri cemetery is on a hill. This royal cemetery complex was built during the reign of Sultan Agung Hanyakrasusuma who reigned from 1613-1646. Initially, Sultan Agung made a royal cemetery in Girilaya. However, he moved the royal cemetery to a new location on Mount Merak. . Girilaya Cemetery was built by Sultan Agung's uncle, Panembahan Juminah in 1629. The architect, Panembahan Juminah, was then buried in the Girilaya cemetery complex after he died in 1629.
