Kyai Saleh Darat
Located within the Bergota public cemetery, this site honors KH Sholeh Darat (Muhammad Sholeh bin Umar), a 19th-century Islamic scholar and spiritual teacher of several national figures, including KH Hasyim Asy’ari (founder of Nahdlatul Ulama), KH Ahmad Dahlan (founder of Muhammadiyah), and R.A. Kartini. Renowned for his mastery in Qur’anic interpretation, jurisprudence, and Sufism, he translated and interpreted the Qur'an into Javanese, making it accessible to the broader public. His works, such as Majmu’ah al-Syari’ah al-Kafiyah, remain highly regarded. Today, his tomb is not only a place of rest for a great ulama, but also a spiritual and cultural hub for the Muslim community, reaffirming Semarang’s significance in Indonesia’s Islamic history.
